The Cat in the Hat Mosaic

Today was an amazing and very productive day. Although, I had a failed attempting to make deviled eggs, everything else went smoothly. I wanted to create the green eggs and ham idea, but the recipe I found on the internet wasn't tasty. If any of you have a delicious deviled eggs recipe to share, I really appreciate :).

My son began his day reading "Green Eggs and Ham" - that's where my inspiration to make the deviled eggs came from :))!!!.

Afterwards he did a series of activities that we downloaded from the Seussville webiste. He did ABC order, word search, rhyming, coloring pages, and also played games. We found this cute cat and hat tic-tac-toe (image below) on the website. The link to download the activities I mentioned is the following: http://www.seussville.com/#/games

Moreover, my son created a mosaic with the cat in the hat pattern. The pattern of the mosaic was designed into shapes: square, circle, triangle and diamond. We used the construction paper to make the mosaic. The pattern is available to download on Just 4 teachers: Sharing Across Borders:
http://just4teachers.blogspot.com/2013/02/reposting-popular-post-mosaic-seuss-art.html

Furthermore, my son described me what was his favorite Dr. Seuss book. He said that he liked "The Cat in the Hat" because it is funny :))). I totally agree :)))!!!! This worksheet was downloaded from TPT: http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/What-is-your-favorite-Dr-Seuss-book-free-writing-prompt

It's been a fun and enjoyable day so far :), hope yours was as great as ours :)!!! Tomorrow there is more Dr. Seuss!!! Have a great evening!!! Thanks.

Dr. Seuss

Today we started our activities focusing on Dr. Seuss Birthday and NEA's Read Across America week. As I am not from USA, I wasn't aware of the NEA's Read Across America. I found out through other teachers' blogs that I follow. I did some research  and discovered the meaning of this cause, which I would like to leave a small note for those who might be in the same situation that I was previously.

NEA's Read Across America is a nationwide reading celebration that takes place annually on March 2—Dr. Seuss’s birthday. Across the country, thousands of schools, libraries, and community centers participate by bringing together kids, teens, and books, and you can too! Incorporate these guides and activities to celebrate reading with young people.

We already love Dr. Seuss' books, so to read some of those books again its always fun. To get on Dr. Seuss mood we started the day creating a "Cat in the Hat" hat, and also his bow tie.

I used a Spiderman cookies cardboard to design the hat, which we wrapped with white construction paper. I used red construction paper to create the strips.

The idea of this hat was taken from "Too Busy for TV". To access the instructions of how to design the hat click on the following link please:
http://toobusyfortv.blogspot.com/search/label/Dr.%20Seuss

My son asked me to make the tie. I created it using construction paper because it was the only red material I had available at home. I cut a A4 size sheet of the paper in half and made a bow.

The other half of the paper I used to make the third part of the tie that hangs on the chest. I used normal school glue to glue the paper.

I still have Christmas ribbon, thus I used it to attach to the tie to make the knot.

It is a simple and inexpensive tie that looks quite nice.

Furthermore, we worked on a few worksheets I downloaded on TPT . We did word search, rhyming, maths, and many more. There are plenty of brilliant materials about Dr. Seuss on TPT .

My son also enjoyed exploring the Seussville website by playing games and doing activities online: http://www.seussville.com. It is a great website with many educational activities about Dr. Seuss books.

We are continuing to study this subject until the rest of the week, so I will post more fun things. Thank you :)!!!

Let's Compare

Hello :), hope you had a wonderful day!!!!!

Since last week, I have been working with comparison numbers with my son. He did many exercises, however, he was still struggling when comparing and ordering the numbers. I felt he needed extra practice before moving on to the next chapter of our math book.

Hence, I designed a set of activities for my son, and also for the teachers and parents that feel their students/children need extra practice when doing exercises involving comparison. There are 20 exercises that allow them to practice ordering and comparing numbers up to 100. The students will also be familiarized with new vocabulary such as smaller, lesser, greater, greatest and smallest.

All the activities are designed with eye catching spring pictures, which helps the students to concentrate and be motivated.

The images below are samples of the material:

This material is available on TPT. To purchase your copy please click on the following link to access my store on TPT:

I would very much appreciate your rating and comment on this material. Thanks!!!!

President's Day

This week we studied about presidents. We did many activities involving Abraham Lincoln and George Washington. All the materials we studied were downloaded for free on TPT.

We also made a few crafts. The idea of the craft below was taken from DLTK Kids website. The instructions of how to make this artwork can be found accessing the following link:
http://www.dltk-kids.com/usa/mcottonball-washington.htm

Furthermore, we created a Lincoln's  hat. I found this artwork on Kaboose which was designed by Amanda Formaro. To access the instructions of how to make this hat click on the link below please:

On one of my posts named Plants posted on 2/5/13, I mentioned that we had planted a few herbs and flowers. So, after 19 days, the pictures below illustrate how much our plants have grown. I am quite excited and can't wait for the day when I will use my herbs on my dishes :))).

Another idea I would like to share with you all was taken from Pinterest. The pin is called how to grow spring onions indoor by Budget Savvy Diva. It is a simple and brilliant idea. All you need to do is to save 2 inches of the spring onion steam and put in on a glass with water.  I started it last Monday and I can tell you that it works and it is growing. This is the link to get more information: http://www.budgetsavvydiva.com/2012/01/grow-spring-onions-indoors/
The picture below is my own spring onion :).

Hope you have a terrific week. Thanks!!!!!

Valentine's day

Hello you all :), hope you had a wonderful valentine's day. Mine is being pretty awesome :)))!!!

I wanted to write a card for my husband but wanted to do something different and extraordinary. I have a few stones that we picked on the lake the other day, and I thought that writing on it would be quite awesome. I used tempera painting and a tooth stick to write on the stone.

I used wrapping paper and a ribbon to wrap the stone. I gave it to my husband and he said it was a wonderful gift. I was very pleased with his reaction :)))!!!.

I also gave a stone to my son.

I received a card from my son too, which was super cute :)!

Another craft that I made today was a "Woven Paper Heart Valentine Baskets by Aunt Annie's Crafts". This paper basket is adorable, I used it for a candy holder. The instructions on how to make are given on her website which is: http://www.auntannie.com/Valentines/HeartBasket/index.html

I loved the crafts we made today, hope you also enjoyed it :)). Have a terrific evening. Thanks.

Valentine's Day

I love Valentine's Day, there is always something very magical about it. You walk on the streets and people are smiling, buying flowers and chocolates, and the cards section at Target are super crowed :). People are constantly finding unique reasons to demonstrate and express their love to their loved ones. I could not wait until tomorrow to help my son to make something special to give to his dad.

I was searching on the internet and I found something really special on Make and Takes. It was a counting down to Valentines with 14 acts of love. The following link is to their craft in case you would like to see it: http://www.makeandtakes.com/valentines-count-down-printable

I thought the idea was pretty cool, but I wanted to make a bit different. I didn't use the counting down idea, but instead I asked my son to write down 14 reasons why he loves his dad. The materials I used to create our Valentine craft were:
*flower pot
*stones
*ribbon
*purple and red construction paper
*kebab sticks
*glue

Instructions:

1st step: Arrange the stones nicely in the pot.

2nd step: Cut the construction paper into heart shapes, 7 for each color.

3rd step: Print and label your pot: 14 Reasons Why I Love you. Then cut it into a heart shape. Pass the ribbon around the top edge of the pot and make a nice bow.

4th step: Ask your child to write the reasons he loves his dad or mom on each heart shape. Then glue the stick on the back of the card.

5th step:Arrange the heart cards around the flower pot nicely.

My son already gave my husband the present, and he really loved it. He loved the creativity and uniqueness of the gift. My husband said he is going to put it on the table in his office. My son was really pleased to hear that because he knows that his dad will look at his gift everyday and think about him. My son also enjoyed designing it and writing some of the many reasons he loves and appreciates his dad.

It is a simple and easy activity that has a lot of meaning for the one who is receiving. Hope you enjoy our post today :).

Take care.
Happy Valentine's Day!!!!!!

Plants

Today we learned about Plants. We read books about leaves, roots and seeds by Patricia Whitehouse, which are very explicative and easy for the child to comprehend the context of the text.

My son has been asking me to plant a few seeds for a long time. Hence today was the perfect day to do it. We went to our local Ace Hardware store and purchased soil and seeds to start our little garden. We got parsley, chives, tomato, forget-me-not and marigold. We followed the instructions written on the soil package to sow our seeds. As it is too cold outside we are keeping the plant pots inside until the weather gets warmer. I am quite excited to watch our little garden grow, as well as seasoning our dishes with our own herbs :)!!!

I also downloaded for free on TPT a wonderful project about plants called "Plants are living Things Project". It is an easy and fun project that helps the child to learn why plants are living things. If you are interested to recreate this project just click on the following link please to learn the instructions of how to make it:

Hope you enjoyed our post today. Thanks!!!
