Utensil Holder

I was searching on Pinterest for Christmas decoration and I found a cute utensil holder on Stamp with Heather. She used a pillow box to create the utensil holder, as I did not  have one, I tried to create it using construction paper, and it actually worked quite well :))). If you would like to see her model please follow the link:
http://stampwithheather.typepad.com/stamp_with_heather/2011/12/utensil-holders-for-christmas-dinner.html

To design my version I used the following materials:
-red, black, white and green construction paper
-glitter
-glue
-scissors

Instructions:

1st: Cut the red construction paper in a vase form about 6 inches long x 6.5 inches wide (bottom part) x 3.5 inches (neck of the vase) x 5 inches (top of the vase). I made half red and half green.

2nd step: Turn the paper on the side and fold the edges.

3rd step: Cut the black construction paper in stripes about 1 inch wide, and then glue onto the red paper.

4th step: Cut the white construction paper in squares about 1.5 inches. Then glue onto the white paper a 3/4 of a inch square black construction paper to make the buckle. Afterwards, put glue around the white paper and put silver glitter.

5th step: Cut small circles of black construction and glue two of them onto each holder to make the bottoms.

6th step: Your utensil holder is ready to be used :))). I think it looks adorable, can't wait to set the table to see how they will appear :))).

Hope you felt inspired for your Christmas table decoration :). Thanks!!!

Santa Claus

Yesterday we went to see the Christmas light at the Lincoln Park Zoo, it was awesome!!!!!  There were colorful lights everywhere. There were also dancing lights, which was magical!! Santa Claus was in the lion's house, which gave us the opportunity to admire the magnificent Siberian Tiger, whilst we were waiting to take a photo with him.  My son took a beautiful photo with Santa. He told me that Santa was very handsome and smelled nice :)))), and that he also told Santa he wanted a Batman car, but he forgot to say that he wanted Robin too :))).

As we were feeling very inspired about Christmas, he asked me to make a Santa Claus mask. We made ours from paper plate, construction paper and cotton balls. We spent some time playing Santa, it was fun :))).

Hope you have a nice evening. Thanks :))!!!

Plants

From yesterday, I begin teaching horticulture and simply about plants to my son. I downloaded a great source on TPT to teach him about plants, which was called "Amazing Plants". This material was very good with lots of information, written in simple language.  Moreover, it also contained plenty of exercises to practice the exercise, and help the student to comprehend the topic better. The teacher's manual is available for free on TPT. This material is based on the book "Amazing Plants" which is also available for purchase on TPT. I didn't buy the book, we went to the library and borrowed other books about plants, which were very useful. However, I downloaded the teacher's manual:
http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Amazing-Plants-Teachers-Manual

My son and I visit parks at least twice a day, and from the day we began learning about plants I would ask him questions related to what we studied:

-Can you name things that are alive in this park?
-Can you tell me the things that are not alive?
-Will you describe for me an example of a small, medium and large size plant?
-What is the difference between us and the plants?
-Why do we need plants?
-What are some ways pollination or seeds spread?
-What does a seed need for growth?

The following are the list of the books we borrowed from the library:

How Do Plants Get Food? by Barbara J. Davis
From Seed to Apple by Anita Ganeri
Plants and the Environment by Jennifer Boothroyd
Leaves by Patricia Whitehouse
Seeds by Patricia Whitehouse
Roots by Patricia Whitehouse
The Grass Patch Project  by Molly Blaisdell
Plants on a Farm  by Nancy Dickmann
Flowers Bloom!  by Mary Dodson Wade

My son also created a seed mosaic. I didn't have many seeds available at home, thus he used only sesame seeds, red beans, lentil seeds and bird seeds. However, you may use corn, rice, sunflower seeds, nut shells, black beans, or any other type you have at home. Before starting the mosaic, I helped him to sketch the picture.

Afterwards, he put glue on the pictures and started decorating.

The image below is his final mosaic after he covered all the images.

It was a very productive and fun day. Hope you felt inspired :))!!

Have a wonderful weekend, thanks :)!!!

The wreath is made from toilet paper, and it is very easy to create. The materials you need are 10 toilet papers, ribbons or buttons for decoration, and hot glue.

The link below leads you to the directions of how to assemble the wreath, which are very easy to understand and follow:

Missing Numbers

Hello everyone :))), hope you had a wonderful weekend!!!

Our weekend was terrific :))!!! Yesterday we went to a treasure hunt and tea party at the Art Institute Chicago. At the entrance they gave us booklets for the kids to guide their exploration. It was so much fun, the kids created their own imaginary animals, learned about American Art an viewed a Jackson Pollock painting. As well as Claude Monet's use impressionism for painting. The exploration went through the Japanese art, Ancient Greek and Roman Art installments. We spent 2 hours exploring the art, and when we finished we had delicious tea whilst children played the harp in the background. The kids also received a bag full of treats as a reward for completing the journey. It was indeed a very well planned and enjoyable event at the Art Institute, which I highly recommend.

Today I created worksheets to practice recognition of numbers. There are exercises to fill in the missing numbers, as well as skip counting by 2s, 5s and 10s.

The material is available for FREE on TPT, to download your free copy just click on the link below please:

Hope it will be useful for you :))!!

Reindeer

Today was the day that I wanted to assess my son's progress in mathematics. When I got the Singapore books (check my blog on Nov 12th please) for my son, I also purchased a book that assess the child's learning and development for each category is being taught. Thus, the test book was the focus of our lesson today, I was very pleased with my child's improvement.

Furthermore, we also created a hand and foot reindeer, which was designed with tempera painting. My son got his hands and foot really dirty today :)), but it was worth, it looked super cute!!! The nose, mouth and eyes of the reindeer was made from construction paper.

A very simple activity that looked very pretty in our Christmas tree :)).

Hope you enjoyed our post today :). Thanks!!!
